The Anchor House Foundation Ride for Runaways was once again a tremendous success this year. At Anchor House, we are always in awe of the dedicated Riders, Support Team members, and volunteers who sacrifice a week away from their families, from work and their daily lives to participate in the 500-mile Classic Ride.
We are equally as thankful to all the Flex Ride participants who pedaled 500 miles on their own time and those who chose the Flex Walk/Run option, completing 100 miles. To everyone who fundraised, donated, or cheered along the way—thank you.
Proceeds from the Anchor House Foundation’s Annual Ride for Runaways play a critical role in sustaining Anchor House programs and services. “With the uncertainty surrounding federal funding that threatens our programming, support this year from the Ride is more important than ever,” said Kim McNear, Anchor House Executive Director.
The Classic Ride kickoff took place in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 12, at Trenton Thunder Ballpark. It may have been early, but the energy was high—supporters lined up with pom-poms, signs, and huge smiles to cheer the riders on as they began their 500-mile journey.
This year, the Classic Ride started in Geneva, NY. Below are some scenes from the road. Special thanks to Jeanne Imbrigiotta for taking many of these amazing photos.
On the eve of the Classic Ride’s conclusion, a special banquet is held—a beloved tradition that not only celebrates the incredible efforts of all participants, but also honors milestones of dedication. The evening also includes the presentation of financial awards given to young adults in Anchor House programs to help them pursue their educational and career goals.
The next day, as the Classic Ride returned home, all Anchor House Ride for Runaways participants—including riders, walkers, and runners—were celebrated at an event at Quaker Bridge Mall. The celebration included community members, supporters, and local dignitaries, including Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson, who was honored with her five-year award for participating in the Flex Walk.
“I am so grateful for each and every participant,” said Kim McNear. “In these challenging times, it is heartwarming that Anchor House can rely on these amazing people who come together each year to raise money for our kids.”
It is not too late to support the Anchor House Foundation Ride for Runaways.
