Revised Statement Crucial to Moving the Organization Forward
SEPTEMBER 12, 2024 (Trenton, NJ) — Anchor House, a nonprofit agency in the heart of Trenton, New Jersey, is excited to announce the revision and revitalization of its Mission, Vision, and Values statement. For forty-six years, Anchor House has offered safe housing, crisis intervention, community outreach, and supportive services to youth and young adults. To adapt and evolve to meet the needs of the community it serves, the organization convened a panel of senior staff and board members to examine its mission.
The result was a refined and refocused Mission, Vision, and Values statement that clearly communicates the organization’s goals and aspirations alongside urgent directives to be met on a daily basis. The new statement was unanimously adopted by the staff and board and is set for distribution both internally and externally.
“What is so inspiring about Anchor House’s re-envisioned Mission, Vision, and Values statement is that it was developed with input from past and present youth and young adults who received our services. Incorporating this unique and vital perspective ensures that we stay focused on the real-time needs of the community,” shared Kim McNear, Executive Director, Anchor House.
The new statement shines a spotlight on the organization’s foundational principles, including safety and trust, and makes clear the organization’s commitment to inclusivity. The new statement reads as follows:
MISSION: To provide youth and young adults who are experiencing abuse, neglect, homelessness, or are aging out of the child welfare system with comprehensive services that offer them and their families the support they need to succeed and thrive.
VISION: A world where no youth or young adult experiences abuse, neglect, or homelessness and where everyone has a safe, stable home, the support they need to thrive, and a future filled with possibilities
VALUES:
- Safety—We prioritize the physical, emotional, and psychological safety of all individuals within our community.
- Community—Our community is a diverse tapestry of voices, perspectives, and experiences that value collaboration and where asking for help and offering support is a natural and essential part of our collective journey.
- Trust—Trust forms the cornerstone of our relationships, built on transparency, integrity, and accountability.
- Self-Determination—We recognize the rights and needs of individuals to be free to make their own choices and decisions.
- Compassion—Compassion is at the heart of how we relate to one another. It is characterized by empathy, kindness, and a genuine desire to alleviate suffering and promote well-being.
- Inclusivity—Inclusivity is not just an ideal but a commitment to creating an environment where individuals feel a sense of belonging, where we can actively challenge bias, privilege, and discrimination, and where equitable opportunities are created for all.
